The famed and illusive Retweet. If it were an insect I would liken it to a Lady Bug, because with them comes luck. On Twitter luck translates to traffic to your website, a higher Klout score and more followers. Installing a retweet button to your blog posts is the best way to encourage your readers to share the post on Twitter by retweeting it. (If you find this post useful make sure you spread love and retweet the knowledge. Thanks)
What is a Retweet?
A retweet is an action on Twitter where you simply “retweet” or Tweet again what someone else has tweeted because you liked the Tweet and want to share it with your followers. Retweeting gets you noticed by the people whose Tweets you retweet, gets your Tweets retweeted and like I said above; raises that online influence ranker, the Klout Score.
Retweet Button, How To Add It To Your Word Press Blog
(An example from my how to get paid to Tweet blog post)
If you don’t have a blog read about how to build a blog here before going any further. Also before you install your retweet button you need to go to Bitly.com and create an account so you can track all the links that are retweeted from your blogs. You will need the API key in the later steps of setting everything up. I cover all of that below.
Topsy and Tweet Meme
There are two popular retweet buttons. One is made by Tweet Meme and the other is made by Topsy. This method is going to show you how to install both plug-ins on your Word Press blog. I use Topsy, but most people use Tweet Meme.
Step 1: Sign In/ Plugins: Sign into Word Press and click the “Add New” plugin under the Plugins tab
Step 2: Search Plugins: Type “retweet button” into the search bar and click search plugin.
Step 3: Install: The search result will bring up the Topsy Retweet Button first. If you continue to scroll down you will find the Tweet Meme Retweet Button. Pick one and click “Install Now”. The button in the picture below says “Update Now” because I already have the Topsy button installed.
Topsy Button
Step 4: Activate: Once you hit install go back to your Plugins section, find the new retweet button and hit “Activate”
Step 5: Settings: Once you click “Activate” click the settings option in the Plugins section. The “Activate” button you click will now be a “Settings” button. The picture button above shows this. Topsy is already installed so I already hit “Activate” on it and now have to go to the “Settings” to configure it. If you go to Settings in the Word Press dashboard side bar you can also see that “Topsy” is their after it is installed. You can get to the settings this way as well.
Step 6: Configure Settings: Configure the settings as labeled in the picture below. There are more setting but these are the most important ones.See below on how to find your Bitly.com API key.
Finding Your Bitly API Key
1. Sign in to your Bitly.com account.
2. Go to the Settings
3. Scroll down until you see your API Key. Copy it and then paste it into the settings tab on the retweet button.
